What we attend to

Agency work, from pre-arrival to clearance outwards.

A port call goes wrong in small ways: a document filed late, a surveyor who was never booked, a crew change that misses the shift. The work below is the work of making sure none of that happens on your vessel.

Full port agency

Pre-arrival formalities, Notice of Readiness, berthing and pilotage arrangements, statement of facts, and clearance outwards.

Husbandry

Provisions, fresh water, spares, laundry, technicians on board and cash to master. The unglamorous half of a call, and the half crews remember.

Crew change

Sign-on and sign-off, immigration and shore passes, transport and hotels, and repatriation through Thiruvananthapuram, 20 km from the berth.

Protecting agency

Owner's eyes on a charterer's call. Independent attendance, reporting and verification of what was actually supplied and actually done.

Bunkers and supplies

Bunker delivery arranged and coordinated, quantity survey attended, and the delivery note checked against what was actually pumped.

Surveys and repairs

Class and P&I surveyor attendance, draught surveys, riding squads and afloat repair coordination.

The port

Vizhinjam takes ships that cannot enter anywhere else on this coast.

Vizhinjam is India's first deepwater container transhipment terminal, commissioned in May 2025 and operated by Adani Vizhinjam Port Private Limited. It sits about ten nautical miles off the main east–west shipping lane and has roughly twenty-four metres of natural depth, so the largest container vessels afloat come alongside without dredging and without part-discharging first.

In May 2025 the terminal worked MSC Türkiye, 399.99 m overall and 24,346 TEU. Cargo that used to tranship through Colombo, Singapore or Salalah can be worked here instead.

Vizhinjam in relation to the east–west shipping lane The main east–west lane runs past the southern tip of India; Vizhinjam lies about ten nautical miles north of it, compared with much longer diversions to competing transhipment hubs. EAST–WEST SHIPPING LANE SUEZ ⇄ MALACCA INDIA Vizhinjam 10 nm off the lane DIVERSION FROM THE LANE Vizhinjam · 10 nm Competing hubs · considerably further
Schematic, not to scale. The ten-mile figure is the port's own published distance from the main east–west route; it is the single commercial fact that matters most about calling here.

Check these before launch These come from public sources, not from a port circular. Vizhinjam is still commissioning further berths, so confirm the current declared alongside draught and quay length before a client relies on them. Once you confirm, I will add the date they were checked.

How a call runs

What we do, and when we do it.

Nothing here is unusual. It is set out so an owner can see exactly where the agent sits in the call and what has to land before the next step can start.

Sequence of a port call Six stages: pre-arrival, arrival and Notice of Readiness, berthing, cargo operations, husbandry and crew alongside, then clearance outwards and the disbursement account.
